St. Brigid’s Day Weaving St. Brigid’s Crosses

One of the oldest customs and traditions associated with St. Brigid is the weaving of the crosses.  Each year people weave a St. Brigid’s cross leading up to the feastday on February 1st. The crosses are then placed over the door seeking Brigid’s protection against fire and disease.  There will be an opportunity for those who visit Solas Bhride between 10.30 a.m. – 12.00 noon to weave a cross.

An informative talk and demonstration on Mother Nature’s Springtime treasures from Enda’s garden in Laois. Presenter: Enda Thompson Phelan, AOIFA Enda, a floral artist, is the creator of Clonohill  Gardens which feature many interesting and unusual plants on a one acre site surrounding Clonohill House. The Gardens reveal Enda’s artistic sensitivity and attract much acclaim from visiting groups. In her workshop Enda will delight the participants with her artistic creations and also advise on suitable planting for garden spaces.
