Week 2: We Remember Planet Earth – The loss of biodiversity and the extinction and threatened extinction of many life-forms.
We invite you to join with us for the second of our In November we Remember series of reflection, meditation, and practice on the themes of: Grieving for planet Earth and the loss of biodiversity.
Brian Swimme writes that there is an innate capacity within creation to surrender into death, even at times destructively, in order to give birth to a new creation. This is part of the natural cycle of life.
However, today the loss of abundance and biodiversity is for reasons related to human activity.
“Because of us, thousands of species will no longer give glory to God by their very existence, nor convey their message to us.”
Laudato Si
“The pain and sadness that arise when witnessing ecological destruction stem from a sense of connection with the nonhuman world; when this connection is cut or severely compromised, we register it as a sense of loss. Grief is a measure of the connection to what is being lost.”
Marzia Varutti
