Hail bounteous May that dost inspire
Mirth and youth, and warm desire,
Woods and Groves, are of thy dressing,
Hill and Dale, doth boast thy blessing.
Thus we salute thee with our early Song,
And welcome thee, and wish thee long.
Song on May Morning by John Milton
In ancient Celtic tradition Bealtaine was a festival celebrating the beginning of summer. It was the time of year when the animals were driven out to the summer pastures. In the Christian tradition the month of May is known as the month of Mary. There are many traditions associated with May Day – the decoration of the May Bush, making garlands of flowers and honouring of Mary as Queen of the May.
10 years ago today, Solas Bhríde Centre and Hermitages Officially Opened.

“The the people who will use the centre in the future I am sure will find comfort and solace in these environs. May your hearts continue strong, may your lives be long and fruitful, may your most generous and courageous visions come to pass.”
