Having a fifty year background in education and social work, she has taught at first and third levels, worked in Child Protection and Community Development. She has held positions of leadership within the Brigidine Victorian Province. For St. Brigid’s Day 2021 the Department of Foreign Affairs, in conjunction with the Irish Traditional Music Archive, commissioned performers to create new compositions in the traditional idiom
This special International Pilgrimage marks the 1500th anniversary of the death of St. Brigid. We will commemorate and celebrate St. Brigid: A Woman, A Life, A Legacy. A special welcome to all overseas pilgrims/visitors “Pilgrimage is a gentle invitation to spend time in reflection, to visit sites with a long spiritual heritage, to slow the pace and feed the spirit.” R Minehan – Rekindling the Flame Revised Edition. Pilgrims are invited to gather at Solas Bhríde Spirituality Centre, Tully Road, Kildare town, R51 Y281 at 10.00 a.m on Saturday, June 15th. Registration and tea/coffee on arrival. Below is a brief outline of the programme for the day. Edit 10.00 a.m.Arrival 10.30 a.m.Setting the scene for the pilgrimage 11.15 a.m.A short walk on The Curragh Plain (St. Brigid’s Pastures) – Bus will transport pilgrims to and from The Curragh Plain 12.15 p.m.Visit to St. Brigid’s Cathedral – site of St. Brigid’s double monastery Visit to St. Brigid’s Parish Church – relic and icon. 1.30 p.m.Return to Solas Bhríde for light lunch. 2.15 p.m.Walk to St. Brigid’s wells. 3.15 p.m.Return to Solas Bhríde for closing ritual. The pilgrimage will conclude at 4.00 p.m. The total length of the pilgrim walk in the afternoon will be approximately 2km. The day will be interspersed with reflection, prayers, storytelling, poetry and music. Cost: €30.00 (incl. of light lunch) Kildare is the homecoming for all who wish to walk in the footsteps of St. Brigid. Increasing numbers of visitors/pilgrims from all over the world are drawn to Kildare to walk the sites associated with her. Come! Be part of the unfolding of the legacy of St. Brigid.
