The Autumn Equinox marks the balance of light and dark as the Northern Hemisphere begins its journey into the increasing darkness of Winter. It celebrates the harvest and ushers in the brilliant beauty of letting go.
Our Celtic ancestors being an agricultural people, were very attuned to the rhythm of the seasons and they honoured the cycles of nature. There are many sacred sites in Ireland that were built in alignment with the rising and setting sun at equinox times.
Like our ancestors we too are invited to honour the cycle of nature with mindful awareness.
Autumn’s invitation to us is to let go of what no longer serves us so that the new may emerge.
Far from shunning change autumn reminds us that change is an inherent part of the cycle of life. Moreover, it shows us how to embrace change effortlessly. Just like the falling leaves you have to let go in order to move forward; you have to clear the old to make way for the new. Earthmonk
